Edmonton to Calgary to Swift Current

Monday. Your Journey to the Heartland of America begins as you are welcomed aboard your deluxe coach in Edmonton.  Travel south via Red Deer, Calgary to Lethbridge meeting additional travel companions enroute.  A stop is made in Medicine Hat before crossing the Alberta/Saskatchewan border and arriving in Swift Current, Saskatchewan for overnight.  Upon arrival join your fellow travellers at an informal WELCOME MEET and GREET.

Tuesday. Saskatchewan passengers join the tour as you travel through Moose Jaw, Regina, Weyburn and Estevan before crossing the Canadian/American border.  Continue south through North Dakota to Minot.

Oklahoma City to Fort Worth

(2 nights) Saturday. This morning we travel into Texas, the Lonestar State. Arrive in the dynamic Dallas/Fort Worth area known for millionaires and urban cowboys for a two-night stay.  This afternoon stroll through the national historic district of the FORT WORTH STOCKYARDS.  Discover the mystique of cattle drives, the early days of cowboys, livestock and meatpacking industries.  Stay in the heart of Downtown Fort Worth at the Hampton Inn.

Fort Worth

Sunday. Get ready to saddle up for a full morning exploring Dallas with your LOCAL GUIDE.  You will visit the outstanding John F. Kennedy Memorial exhibit, “THE SIXTH FLOOR MUSEUM”.  Later this afternoon, travel a short distance back to your Fort Worth hotel.  You may want to return to the excitement of the stockyards on your own this evening.

Fort Worth to San Antonio

(2 nights) Monday. Leave the skyscrapers of Dallas behind and travel to San Antonio, a city which expresses the soul of Texas.  Be our guest at the grand Drury Plaza Riverwalk located on the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk.

Tuesday. Enjoy a GUIDED TOUR of one of America’s most unique cities.  Some options for the afternoon: shop at the Mexican market, visit the Alamo or perhaps view the Imax film presentation of the famous battle.  Balance of the day is free to explore the RIVERWALK, San Antonio’s shopping and entertainment center.

San Antonio to Corpus Christi

(2 nights) Wednesday. Today it’s on to beautiful Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico. You will see lots of crab boats here as crabbing is a major industry. Enjoy a GUIDED TOUR of Corpus Christi, where every day is a tropical fiesta with over 130 miles of beaches.  Your lodging will be the beachfront DoubleTree by Hilton.

Thursday. You have a choice this morning to either enjoy a self-guided tour of the aircraft carrier USS LEXINGTON or visit the TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM.  The afternoon is free to explore on your own.

Friday. Today travel to Houston, the fourth largest city in the USA and the centre for space exploration, often referred to as “the closest thing to space on earth”.  Visit SPACE CENTER HOUSTON at Johnson Space Center.

Houston to Lafayette

Saturday. Welcome to Louisiana, a land of churning paddlewheelers, simmering gumbos and mysterious swamps.  Travel to Lafayette, the heart of Cajun Country and the town immortalized in Longfellow’s epic poem “Evangeline”.  Join your travelling companions on a sightseeing boat for an adventurous SWAMP TOUR through moss-draped trees.  Your guide will take you into the interior of one of America’s greatest river swamps pointing out the local indigenous plants and wildlife.  Settle into your spacious suite with a kitchen at the Homewood Suites by Hilton.

Lafayette to New Orleans

(3 nights) Sunday. Head to Avery Island for a TABASCO FACTORY TOUR, followed by a delightful experience of a CAJUN MEAL. Continue your travels through the state and visit beautiful OAK ALLEY PLANTATION. Arrive in New Orleans, the birthplace of Dixieland Jazz.  Stay at the Four Points by Sheraton French Quarter located in the historic neighbourhood dubbed the “Crown Jewel of New Orleans”.

A CITY TOUR details the landmarks, legends and architecture that made the “Crescent City” famous.  In the afternoon enjoy a narrated cruise on the STERNWHEELER STEAMBOAT NATCHEZ.  You will have an opportunity to explore the charm of the French Quarter’s narrow streets, quaint courtyards and sidewalk cafes.

Tuesday. Enjoy a free day in the fabulous Crescent City.  Will you explore the French Quarter?  Book a cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking?  Visit the unequalled National World War II Museum?  Stroll along the Mississippi, stopping to pick up a coffee and beignets?  There’s so much for you to do, so choose carefully and enjoy New Orleans on your own.

(2 nights) Wednesday. Depart from the “Jazz Capital of the World” and continue to Memphis, Tennessee, home of Graceland and “the Blues”.   Wind down your day at The Guest House at Graceland, where you will be steps from shopping and dining, or have a quiet night in your suite.

 Saturday. Continue your travels northward into South Dakota to Sioux Falls and then west to Mitchell for overnight.

Mitchell to Deadwood

Sunday. After a stop at the unique WALL DRUGS visit two of the world’s greatest mountain carvings.  MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL depicts four presidents’ faces and is the world’s largest mountain carving.  It was sculpted from the granite of the Black Hills from 1929 to 1941.  Then visit CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, an ongoing sculpture being carved in tribute to the North American Indian.  Continue to DEADWOOD to relive the history of Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane.  Enjoy your time in a town that is reminiscent of the wild frontier and mining days.  Overnight at The Mineral Palace in the heart of this historic town.

Deadwood to Williston

Monday. Leave Deadwood mid-morning and travel through the lonesome plains of South Dakota.  Enter North Dakota, continuing your travels through the North Dakota Badlands to Williston for overnight.  Share tour memories tonight with your fellow travellers at a HOSTED FAREWELL DINNER.
